The Arctic fox has the warmest fur of any mammal, allowing it to stay comfortable in temperatures as low as -50°C. Its compact body, short legs, and small ears reduce heat loss, and it can curl its bushy tail around itself like a blanket while it sleeps.
Its coat is a seasonal disguise: thick and white in winter to blend with the snow, then brown and grey in summer to match the tundra rocks and plants. This camouflage helps it hunt lemmings and avoid predators year-round in one of the harshest habitats on the planet.
